Semi related so I apologise if this isn't the right thread. But is there a scam going around where people are swapping the back of a switch to fake an early model?
In the UK (I know not all countries or all switches have this). Any switches sold have the year of manufacture. Nintendo patched the RCM exploit in July 2018. So in theory all switches made before then should be exploitable.... And they should be in the green zone.
I've just bought one that's not (and I've seen quite a few).I thought it could be a board change (official repair). Would changing the board change the serial too?
The serial itself is in the possibly patched range. I didn't know at the time as the seller was reluctant to give the serial out. I figured I'd it's a 2017 model it's definitely unpatched and I'd get a 2nd switch cheap.
My mate thinks this is a scam. Swapping the backs to sell a 2017 model that really isn't. What do you think?

Serial number isn't on the back cover, so if anything is actually swap is probably the mother board.

The serial number should be at the bottom of your Switch, on the left side of the USB-C connector. If it matches the serial number you can find in the system menu, there was no board change or shell swap. It's just a regular patched Switch.

The case serial and settings match. This switch also have the year (in this case 2017 which was before Nintendo started patching them). The point I'm trying to make is if it was made before Nintendo began patching them it should be unpatched. Which is why I'm wondering if this is fine sort of scam (I don't think so but my mates convinced).
But it's a very easy thing to swap that back cover if you wanted to make it look like an earlier model. I also don't think I'd trust the serial at the bottom 100% on eBay etc... I think the best way would be the settings menu.

If the serial number match then it is untampered with, it still come down to the inject a payload if it fall under possibly patched.

The Nintendo plant that produced your console probably had a lot of these 2017 shells, and just used them in the following years, 2018 and beyond. The best way to judge if the Switch is unpatched is by serial number only.

XAW7002037----. Patched. Got it near the end of 2018, so it was most likely made after July 2018 when they started patching them.

If the owner of "ismyswitchpatched" is around.
Their website doesn't return the correct result for
Serials beginning with XAJ4:
Serials between XAJ40000000000 - XAJ40046000000 are safe to buy
I got a NSW between that Serial, jailbroken with FW 11.0.0

It's not the websites fault. There's a typo on your screenshot. 4004. Not 4400.

This guide may need to be updated soon. I got a model that has the serial number XAW1006592… and it is reading out 0x0000 whenever I inject hekate into it. I already made a full post about it on my profile, but for context: bought it brand new, never been sent into Nintendo’s repair shop. Essentially, everything about it says unpatched, but it acting like a patched unit :/.
