Where to Find 16 Minneapolis & St. Paul Breweries with Food | Discover The Cities (1)

I love food. I also love Twin Cities’ breweries. Put the two together, and I’m in heaven.

On the flip side, nothing’s worse than drinking all day, catching the munchies, and then having no good food options.

For those emergency situations, I thought I’d compile a definitive list to help you find breweries with food in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Whether it’s dedicated restaurant spaces, delicious onsite food trucks, or breweries uniquely positioned for great food delivery options, this list will ensure you go hungry no longer.

Cheers!

Minneapolis & St. Paul Breweries with Dedicated Restaurants & Food Onsite

Pull up a chair, grab a plate, and get to chowing. These breweries have full kitchens on site serving up great food to go with that craft beer of yours.

I’ve organized them by what you’re in the mood for.

Craft beer & pizza? Surly Pizza Upstairs

Where to Find 16 Minneapolis & St. Paul Breweries with Food | Discover The Cities (2)

Update: As of August 2021, Surly Pizza upstairs is temporarily closed. Surly’s Beer Hall, which includes appetizers, tacos, bbq, and sandwiches remains open.

Surly is definitely the largest taproom around the Twin Cities, and lucky for your hungry belly, that tap room comes with one of the best food options in town.

As the name implies, Surly Pizza upstairs covers the entire second floor of the Surly brewery. And this wood-fired, cheesy goodness is legitimately some of the best pizza anywhere. (You can read more about that in my full Surly Pizza review.)

In fact, the pizza is so good, we named Surly Pizza our “Favorite Pizza to Eat With Your Beer” in our Best Minneapolis Pizza Awards.

Update: Surly Pizza Upstairs is currently closed due to COVID19.

Daily Specials? (And a full menu!) – Urban Growler

Urban Growler is an awesome taproom that also features some of the best brewery food anywhere. A true craft brewery taproom, they’ve also got an awesome selection of sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, and even a solid kid’s menu! But if I had to choose (and I have… many times) I’d go with those legendary, perfectly prepared nachos.

Don’t miss their nightly specials, like Taco Tuesday, Burger Wednesday, or my personal favorite – Friday Fish Fry, which they offer year-round. Lucky us!

  • Address: 2325 Endicott St, St Paul, MN 55114

Wurst and Bier – Waldmann Brewery

A post shared by Waldmann Brewery (@waldmannbrewery) on

Waldmann Brewery’s beer hall atmosphere is perfectly rounded out by an awesome food menu. It starts with some classic German appetizers, like a delicious soft pretzel or pickle plate. For the main course, you’ve got plenty of options of German sandwiches, burgers, sausages, and even a beer mac and cheese. And lastly, don’t skip on dessert here. Their seasonal strudels are to die for.

A brewery with Mexican food? La Dona Cerveceria

A post shared by Alexis Thomas (@alexistalkstoomuch) on

La Dona is unique in being the only brewery in the Twin Cities focusing on Mexican craft beer. And keeping with that theme, they have a full kitchen serving up Mexican snacks, seven days a week.

The menu includes tacos, elote, beans & rice, chips and dip, and what’s undoubtedly the most interesting offering – The Burgerdilla. (A grilled quesadilla stuffed with ground beef.) All of which pair perfectly with the great selection of Mexican Lagers!

Full restaurant experience – The Freehouse

A post shared by The Freehouse (@freehousempls) on

The Freehouse is such a popular restaurant that a lot of people forget they actually brew their own beer. The menu focuses mainly on delicious sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, and entree plates. (They also serve brunch.) Whatever you choose, don’t forget to wash it down with one of their craft brews!

  • Address: 701 N Washington Ave #101, Minneapolis, MN 55401

Appetizers, Pizza, and Sandwiches? Day Block Brewing

Day Block Brewing is another brewery that really focuses on the gastropub vibe. The star of the show is probably their tons of fresh made pizzas, but they also sport a lengthy menu features miles of appetizers and plenty of burgers, sandwiches, soups, and salads.

Smoked Dinner? Northbound Smokehouse

A post shared by Northbound Smokehouse Brewpub (@northboundsmokehousebrewpub) on

As the name implies, Northbound Smokehouse is all about that smoke! From BBQ beef brisket to perfectly smoked fish, their lengthy menu includes everything you’d expect to find at a full scale restaurant.

Of course, they also carry a solid selection of in-house craft beers. Which is exactly why they’re on this list.

German Snacks – Yoerg Brewing

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Yoerg Brewing Company (@yoergbeermn) on

Yoerg Brewing is an under-the-radar brewery in East St. Paul. (Fun trivia: It’s also the oldest brewery in Minnesota… sort of.)

In addition to their incredible selection of German brews, many of which are imported straight from Germany, they also have a long menu of snacks and German favorites.

If you’re in the snacking mood, they sell peanuts in the shell, or even better – bags of the rare and hard to find Martin’s Pretzels. (I once had a lengthy conversation with Yoerg’s owner about these pretzels. For the past 80 years, they’ve been hand rolled by a single family in Pennsylvania. He claims they’re the best hard pretzel ever made, and after a couple bites, I had to admit… he was right.)

If you’re looking for something with a little more substance, check out some of the many bratwursts, the Yoerg Beef Sandwich, or even the Yoerg Chili dog – which comes in at less than 4 bucks. If you want to be less adventurous, they’ve got a handful of pizzas available.

  • Address: 378 Maria Ave, St Paul, MN 55106

Most unique brewpub menu – Town Hall Brewery

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Town Hall Brewery (@townhallbrewery) on

One of the few full menu breweries in downtown Minneapolis, Town Hall features all the usuals and then some. Aside from all the appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, tacos, and other entrees, they’ve also got a special menu with some truly unique stuff! They’re currently the only brewery serving up a Juicy Lucy, and they even have Chinese Orange Chicken!

The Newest Kitchen: Wabasha Brewing Company

Where to Find 16 Minneapolis & St. Paul Breweries with Food | Discover The Cities (3)

Wabasha has long been known for the occassional food trucks parked out front. (Pictured above) In 2020, they ramped up food operations by attaching a food trailer to their existing building. Now, their full-time kitchen is always serving up “tons of menu items from wings to burgers, breakfast, asian fusion, vegan and vegetarian options, salads and more!!”

  • Address: 429 Wabasha Street South, Saint Paul, MN 55107

Breweries with Frequent Food Trucks and/or Great Delivery Options

Of course, I can’t just limit this list to the places with dedicated kitchens. Tons of breweries around Minneapolis & St. Paul solve the food question by featuring delicious food trucks. Others work out agreements with nearby restaurants and allow delivery right into the taproom, or at least bring-your-own food.

In my mind, this can be even more fun, although probably a little less reliable.

Here’s to adventure! And onto the favorites…

Clutch Brewing (Full food hall)

A post shared by Clutch Brewing Company (@clutchbrewco) on

Clutch Brewing sits in St. Paul’s Keg and Case Market. Aside from this just being a really, really cool place, it also means this brewery shares a building with tons of the cities best food options, like Revival (amazing BBQ) Pimento (unreal Jamaican bowls) O’Cheeze (Grilled Cheese) or Woodfired Cantina (Mexican Street Food).

If you’re looking for food and beer options, it doesn’t get any better.

Bad Weather Brewing (Daily Foodtrucks)

A post shared by Bad Weather Brewing Company (@badweatherbrew) on

If you’re hungry and thirsty in St. Paul, Bad Weather is a great option, thanks to their rotating selection of daily food trucks. Those trucks pull right up to the brewery’s main entrance, and they’re usually some of the best trucks in the Twin Cities.

You can check who’s available, and when, using their online food truck calendar.

Blackstack Brewing (food trucks)

A post shared by BlackStack Brewing (@blackstackbrewing) on

Aside from having some of the best beer around, Blackstack is another brewery that often features some of the best food trucks in the city, right outside the door. I especially love that they usually work out deals with those trucks, where you can get discounted food with the purchase of your beer in the taproom. How awesome is that!?

Tin Whiskers Brewing (Neighboring delivery)

A post shared by Tin Whiskers Brewing Co. (@tinwhiskersbrew) on

Tin Whiskers might not serve any food, but who needs to when your neighbors include Sawatdee Thai or Black Sheep Coal Fired Pizza? Tin Whiskers worked out a deal with both places, and a few others (my beer buzzed memory is a little hazy, forgive me…) where those restaurants will literally walk your food into the Tin Whiskers taproom.

Yes, please.

Dual Citizen (Mediterranean Delivery)

Another brewery with an awesome neighbor setup.

Dual Citizen sits right next to The Naughty Greek, an absolutely fantastic Mediterranean Gyro joint. And in this case, The Naugthy Greek isn’t so naughtly; like a good neighbor, they’ll deliver their amazing food right to your Dual Citizen table.

  • Address: 725 Raymond Ave, St Paul, MN 55114
  • Website: Dual Citizen

Fair State Brewing (Bring your own food, with lots of nearby options)

This fantastic Northeast Minneapolis brewery sits on the same block as some truly amazing restaurants, like El Taco Riendo, Holy Land, and two of the best Thai Food options in Minneapolis – Sen Yai Sen Lek and Khao Hom Thai.

All of these are just a 1-2 minute walk from the Fair State taproom – perfect for when the hunger hits but you’re not ready to stop the party just yet.
